ICE Expands Bet on Polymarket with $600M Investment

New York Stock Exchange parent company Intercontinental Exchange (ICE) is continuing to build out its decentralised finance portfolio by injecting a final $600 million into Polymarket.

Founded in 2020 by Shayne Coplan, Polymarket allows users to trade on real-world event outcomes using cryptocurrency. ICE’s earlier deal valued the platform at around $8 billion and made ICE the exclusive global distributor of its event-based data. The company now also plans to purchase up to $40 million in shares from existing investors.

This latest investment comes as ICE deepens its digital asset strategy, including a recent minority stake in crypto exchange OKX. Together, these moves aim to connect traditional financial markets with emerging Web3 infrastructure, including potential future tokenisation initiatives.

While Polymarket operates as a decentralised prediction tool, the investment in OKX provided ICE with access to centralised spot crypto price data to launch new futures contracts, with the aim of bridging traditional finance with Web3 infrastructure
